The Adidas Superstar turns 55 this year, and the iconic low-top heritage b-ball sneaker doesn’t look a day over 16 when it was immortalized by the RUN DMC song My Adidas. Hitting radio waves in 1986, the ensuing music video depicted the trio of group members all proudly wearing shell toes. 

In celebration of the milestone, the brand has launched a global campaign titled “Superstar: The Original,” partnering with stars from the worlds of basketball, music and streetwear to pay homage to the shoe.

Thibaut Grevet, French fashion photographer and filmmaker, directs two black and white short black and white films — as a nod to the model’s OG colourway — starring Samuel L. Jackson, Missy Elliott, pro skateboarder Mark Gonzales, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, rapper GloRilla and more. The first is Pyramids, where Jackson muses on enduring human achievements, and the second, Clocks, features the rest of the ensemble cast examining the concept of timelessness.

As part of the campaign, the aforementioned black/white combo returns on the Superstar II, alongside a white/black and matching Firebird Tracksuit. The silhouette was first released in 1976 as a follow-up to the I and showcased a wider fit, padded tongue, Trefoil logo and updated materials. Today, the Superstar II is available in a dizzying array of styles, and new for 2025 is a Cloud White/Core Black variant boasting a slightly different take on the design. 

The three stripes are made out of a smooth white leather to match the rest of the upper, while the serrated edges, tongue and heel tab are finished in black suede. Other unique bits include contrasting black fat shoelaces, branded white eyelets, midsole stitching and a rubber outsole, debossed Superstar text on the lateral sides and white metal dubraes with black engraved Trefoils. An extra pair of white laces are found in the classic blue Adidas box.
