Joining Mercedes’ ever-growing electrified portfolio is the new 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+.

Differentiating this plug-in from the standard E-Class are 1.1-centimeter-wider fenders on each side to fit the increased front axle track width, illuminated vertical-slat grille, more aggressive lower front apron and exclusive badging. There is also an assortment of AMG-exclusive trim like polished side skirts, 20-inch five twin-spoke alloy wheels, trunk lip spoiler and gloss black rear diffuser housing quad round exhaust pipes.

Our press loaner had the Dynamic Plus bundle (+ $4,000) equipped adding composite brakes and red calipers, rear electronic LSD and a nappa leather steering wheel.

The interior is as nice as one would expect for the segment, elevated further by options like the Multicontour Seating Package (+ $2,700) encompassing massaging, heated and ventilated front seats, premium headrests and cabin fragrance; and Pinnacle Trim (+ $7,200) with its Burmester stereo, ambient lighting, head-up display and extra sound deadening. Anchoring the space is the egregious pillar-to-pillar Superscreen, which is approximately 39 inches of instrumentation and infotainment display real estate.

Packing a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine and electric motor, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, being quick is no problem for this E 53. Output is rated at a combined 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, and when the temporary RACE START boost mode is used the sedan can get from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

During daily driving duties, the car is quiet and composed especially when cruising on pure electricity from the 400-volt, 28.6-kilowatt-hour batter installed under the trunk floor. The adaptive dampening suspension soaks up bumps nicely, but also firms up when the Sport or Sport+ setting is activated for some spirited all-wheel-drive corner carving. Standard active rear-axle steering helps with the handling as well and allows for easy city maneuverability.

DC fast charging support is a nice touch, and at a maximum 60 kilowatts gets the total capacity from 10 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid starts at $105,000 MSRP.
