The annual flower spectacle formerly known as the Chilliwack Tulip Festival is now rebranded Botanica, back this spring season featuring 1.5 million bulbs spread out over 13 acres in the heart of the Fraser Valley.
Owned and operated by multigenerational farmers the Pauls family, it’s clear they know a thing or two about putting on a proper display evidenced by the seemingly endless rows of perfectly planted colourful tulips from 59 unique varieties. The view is perhaps best seen atop the newest addition to event — a fittingly rainbow-hued Ferris wheel ($8 per ride) offering a birds-eye view of the entire grounds.
Whether it’s in front of the vintage pickup loaded up with a massive planter or standing right in the middle of the fields, there’s no shortage of photo ops. After frolicking amongst the flowers, fill a provided pail ($40 in advance or $50 on-site) with any of the tulips found in the expansive U-pick area. If you work up an appetite, food trucks like Urban Wood Fired Pizza are set up to provide some tasty sustenance.
Fun for all ages, there’s an outdoor games area as well as swings and slides for the kids. If rain strikes during your visit (it is springtime in the Lower Mainland after all), take refuge under the covered shelter that also houses the Farm Store selling merch and locally-made goods like honey, pickles and jams and jellies.
Admission starts at $12 online for adults and $10 for children 5 to 15 and seniors 65+. Infants and toddlers are free. For the best value, visit on Mellow Mondays where entry is a flat $10 for all. Botanica Tulip Festival is located at 41310 Yale Road in Chilliwack, B.C., just over an hour’s drive from Vancouver.
