For enthusiasts of fine dining, it doesn’t get any better than French cuisine. And on March 21, there will be a one-day opportunity to sample a five-course meal at Coal Harbour’s Tableau Bar Bistro in celebration of the fifth annual Good France international culinary festival.

Also known as Goût de France,Tableau joins six other local eateries (Le Crocodile, Provence Marinaside, Verre, Bistro 41 by Fouberg, St Lawrence and Origo Club in Richmond) featuring special socially responsible menus as per the event’s focus. Over 3,300 establishments in over 150 countries are expected to participate, cooking authentic and inspired dishes that can be paired with French wines.

The set dinner — priced at $80 per person —  is going to be prepared by chef Catherine Stewart, a native Vancouverite who returned to Canada after a 10-year stint abroad including a recent stop at the Château La Lagune winery in Bordeaux, France. She has created a special five-course “Tableau d’Hôte,” which includes a salad: winter watercress and potato velouté; soup: salad niçoise; choice of entrée: suprême de poulet or jarrett d’ageau; a cheese plate; and one of two desserts: paris brest or tarte aux pomme fine.

Patrons may opt for a $40 wine pairing created by restaurant beverage director J.S. Dupuis, consisting of both popular and unexpected pours.
