Monos, the Canadian travel and lifestyle brand known for its minimalist and durable luggage and accessories, has partnered with Vancouver-based auto restoration studio Pre-Merger to launch a limited-edition luggage collection alongside a beautifully-restored one-of-one heritage Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
“Myself and my partners, we just have an interest in cars and like, good design, and I think that’s where we found a lot of similarities between us [and Pre-Merger]. Sort of an appreciate for classic timeless design,” said Hubert Chan, Monos co-founder and chief creative officer, when describing how the recent collaboration came about at an intimate media event held at Mount Pleasant’s Another Studios.
“So we took inspiration from the G-Wagon. Like you can see this pattern that we have, this texture [on the Aluminum Collection suitcases] that was actually adapted from the Rodeo Check pattern found in the interior of the vehicle.”
Indeed, the 1998 Mercedes G320 — originally sourced from Tokyo and painted an Alfa Romeo-inspired Amaranto colour with period-correct refinished interior and aforementioned buffalo-plaid-esque black-and-grey upholstery — is a perfect complement to the new lineup of metallic luggage. Not only because of the cabin fabric but also the classic gunmetal alloy wheels and hits of black found all over the luxury 4X4.
But back to the suitcases for a moment. The aluminum shells showcase a dark tonal treatment with a unique debossed pattern offered exclusively as part of this capsule, which encompasses a total of five sizes ranging from carry-on ($935) to a nifty wheeled trunk ($1,095). Similar to the standard line, features includes electroplated and anodized brushed aluminum construction, black quilted taffeta lining, soft-release side handle and integrated luggage tag.
To celebrate the launch, Monos is running a sweepstakes that bundles the G-Wagon, Aluminum Collection set and a two-night stay in Vancouver. To enter, visit monos.com/giveaway. The contest follows another successful partnership in 2025 with Brooklyn Coachworks where the company gave away a bespoke vintage Aries Blue Land Rover Defender 90 and matching luggage.
