Looking for a red carpet experience to watch the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday but can’t justify a plane ticket to California? Fortunately Vancouverites have another option to go out and enjoy a Hollywood-like experience without leaving the Lower Mainland.

• Put on your fancy threads and head down to Donnelly Group’s Cinema Public House on 901 Granville St. for a swanky Oscar party. There are two options: for $25, guests get to enjoy a glass of champagne, canapés and a three-course meal by executive chef Michael Knowlton, or choose the $35 ticket that comes with two cocktails. The show starts at 4 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.), there will be a live DJ, trivia throughout the evening, and prizes for the best-dressed guy and girl.

• Looking for a thriftier event? East Van’s favourite indie film house Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway) will be screening the awards at no cost. First come first serve so get there early and get your photo taken on the red carpet. Doors at 3 p.m.

• Another free venue to watch the big show is Vogue theatre (918 Granville St.) Activities include Oscars bingo, ticket giveaways and “name that famous movie” trivia. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. — all ages are welcome, attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
