With 300-plus channels covering every genre of music, comedy, sports and more, it was only a matter of time before SiriusXM added podcasts to its ever-growing portfolio. And from now until Dec. 1, listeners can sample the new service at no charge through its Listen Free campaign.
“As the popularity of podcasts continues to expand, we’re thrilled to offer our subscribers an amazing selection of podcast entertainment and expand on our unmatched variety of compelling, must-hear programming,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM president and chief content officer in a press release.
“With exclusive new series from entertainment powerhouses like Marvel and Kevin Hart, SiriusXM originals from some of our most popular hosts, and a curated collection of top shows from leading providers, subscribers now have direct access to our new destination for podcasts without ever leaving the SiriusXM app. And with Stitcher and their catalog of hugely popular original podcasts joining the SiriusXM family, this is just the beginning.”
Featuring all original content available to subscribers, superhero lovers especially will be delighted to hear about Marvel signing on to provide a slate of exclusive offerings. For example Marvel Declassified (premiering Dec. 8) focuses on the evolving history of the comic book giant through a non-fiction narrative lens; and in a unique hip-hop mash-up Marvel/Method is hosted by Wu-Tang Clan’s own Method Man who interviews industry contemporaries talking about all things fan-related as well as, of course, music.
Other stand-outs include I Want my 80s Podcast, where original MTV VJs Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood and Alan Hunter flash back four decades to discuss defining moments of the era; Unboxing the 90s with Jim Shearer where another MTV alum chats up period-specific artists and celebrities; and the aforementioned first-ever solo-hosted audio show by Kevin Hart (coming soon).
